Welcome to Telematic Studios, our online music school. We currently teach voice, guitar, bass, improvisation, karaoke coaching, and online jamming over Zoom. We accept students of all ages, genres, and ability levels, so whether you’re preparing for a performance, planning to record a demo, singing with your choir, looking to improve your karaoke songs, or wanting to make music for relaxation and enjoyment, we’d love to help you feel confident and sound your best!

Here are our current rates:

$35 per half-hour lesson
$50 per 45-minute lesson
$65 per hour lesson
$200 for a block of 4 1-hour lessons (that’s a 25% discount!)

Meet Our Teachers

 

Dr. Tom Zlabinger
Chief Executive Officer & Founder

Dr. Tom Zlabinger holds a B.A. in music from Grinnell College and an M.A. in jazz performance from Queens College. He completed his Ph.D. in ethnomusicology at the CUNY Graduate Center and his dissertation was entitled FREE FROM JAZZ: The Jazz and Improvised Music Scene in Vienna after Ossiach (1971-2011). He plays electric and upright bass, but is also known to play guitar and sing. He is an Associate Professor of Music at York College / CUNY in New York City.

As a scholar, Tom has most recently written about music in and around media franchises, such as The Big LebowskiPeanuts, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, The SimpsonsStar Trek: The Next Generation, and Star Wars. Additionally, his scholarly interests include the pedagogy of improvisation, decolonization, telematic performance, and the relationships between blues, jazz, and psychedelia. He has also presented his research at national and international conferences.

Tom founded Telematic Studios in 2022 to help musicians learn and make more music online. He teaches telematic performance, online jamming, guitar, bass, songwriting, and improvisation.

Lesley Zlabinger
Chief Operating Officer, Voice Teacher

Lesley holds a B.A. in German from Grinnell College, an M.S. in Elementary Education from Hunter College, and an M.A. in Vocal Performance from Queens College. She has more than 15 years of experience teaching voice and especially enjoys working with adults who are true amateurs, folks who just love to sing and don’t necessarily have professional aspirations. Lesley offers lessons in vocal technique and karaoke coaching.
